Although
often thought of as an overnight sensation,
Branson has been welcoming visitors for more
than one hundred years, lured by natural
beauty and outdoor recreational activities.
The traveling public was first drawn to
Branson following the 1907 publication of
Harold Bell Wright’s novel Shepherd of the
Hills. Readers flocked to the Ozarks on the
newly built railroad to learn more about the
lifestyle of the characters in the novel.
The area gained national prominence in the
entertainment industry in 1954 when Red
Foley, a legendary country singer with 38
“Top 10” hits, moved to Springfield, MO,
to host the “Ozark Jubilee”, one of the
first successful network television shows.
Now with more than 40 state-of-the-art
theaters, the entertainers light up the
stage with music, comedy, magic and
sensational production shows. Daytime or
nighttime Branson audiences are treated to
the most remarkable level of talent
available anywhere. Branson music is pop,
swing, gospel, rock-n-roll, patriotic,
classical, and country music. This all
combines in entertainment diversity
unmatched by any other destination!
